Moving Africa 3: Umthombi, Impro-Visé 2

Mon 4 - Sat 9 Jun 2007 19:45 - 21:05

Barbican Centre, London, United Kingdom

'The programme as a whole is fresh and illuminating, a rare and very welcome window on the diverse contemporary art coming out of Africa.' The Guardian (on Moving Africa 3)

A double bill which forms part of the bite contemporary African dance series. This juxtaposes two strongly contrasting duets by emerging choreographers from Sénégal and South Africa.
Umthombi uses a dance partnership of controlled energy to represent a boy's coming of age in a rural community.

Impro-Visé 2 sees a man and woman emerge from an urban wasteland; as they dance they reveal a relationship with a powerful but ambiguous dynamic.
