Down-a

Contemporary Show, Dancing. Contact organiser for further details. Doors open 21:00. Admission £7.50. Licensed Bar. To book or for further details: Book, Info, Tel: 08444 77 1000. Butoh performance about diversity, inspired by The Two Noble Kinsmen by William Shakespeare. Danced by Flavia Ghisalberti (Switzerland) and Ezio Tangini (Italy). Music by Frank Heierli (Switzerland). Down-a is about the guilt of the human soul. Difference and folly are acts of revolt in a homogenised, intolerant and repressive society. Each character is, in his own way, a distinct one soul entrapped in a guilty net. In the non-verbal performance Down-a, the senses become superior to the mind. The audience has to walk the tightrope between reality and madness and, in a flood of senses, is confronted with its deepest fears, emotions and obsessions. Down-a, down-a (vai giù, vai giù) is a refrain composed by an italian madrigalist. Down-a is part of the “Project Something in between”. The project has been ideated linked to the evocative history of the memory of psychiatric hospitals and the healing of the legacy of suffering and embarrassment associated to them. Saturday august 22nd (9:15 pm) Sunday august 23rd (9:15 pm) Monday august 24th (9:15 pm) The In Between Butoh Dance Company also will give a workshop on Sunday 23rd and Monday 24th at 12 o'clock till 3:00 pm at the Camden Eye 2 Kentish Town Road, London, NW1 9NX. Fusing the traditional with the avant–garde, complex choreography with complete improvisation, wild physicality with meditative stillness, butoh defies easy definition and embraces paradox. Described as a confrontational, yet poetic and non-violent dance form that evokes images of decay, fear and desperation, eroticism, ecstasy and stillness -- it connects the conscious and the unconscious. 6 hours workshop (not only for dancers, but for everybody) the Camden Eye 2 Kentish Town Road London, NW1 9NX Fee cash only – payable at workshop For information contact Zena camdenfringe@googlemail.com or contact the Camden Fringe Festival Tel 020 7482 4857 To register contact Ezio Tangini mobile phone +39 3385004680 or e_mail eziotangini@virgilio.it For a schedule of performance times visit www.camdenfringe.org In Between Butoh Dance Company is performing at the 2009 Camden Fringe Festival August 22nd – August 24th.
