Get Ready To Sparkle!
Sat 10 May 2014
The best-kept secret of Britain’s dance world is The Keep Fit Association (KFA) which has been keeping the nation fit and active since 1956.

Berkshire Keep Fit Association, which began two years earlier, celebrate their Diamond Anniversary on 10th May, 2014 at the Loddon Hall in Twyford from 11.30am until 4.30pm. The Mayor of Wokingham, Councillor UllaKarin Clark, will be there to share in the day’s festivities, which include open exercise sessions, class demonstration teams and charity side shows.

Berkshire KFA is enormously proud of the fact that keep fit is for life, with hundreds of its members staying fit and mobile well into later life. The KFA is still here, because it works. The Association has a whole-body approach to fitness in classes that are original, sociable, supportive and fun. Exercise fads come and go. For sixty years Berkshire KFA has continued to deliver the goods.

Movement and Dance in a class setting is non-competitive. Because it involves meeting people and is performed to a variety of music, it lifts the spirit and can be a great antidote to loneliness, depression and stress. There are no barriers to participation. It is safe when well-taught and anyone of any age can join in.

Bodies are meant to move, and movement makes us feel good. Bodies and minds need to be stimulated, active and challenged. KFA movement and dance is a fantastic way to achieve all this.

The benefits from regular exercise will soon become obvious. Stamina and strength will increase. Exercise and movement enables us to reach up high and bend down low because flexibility and suppleness improve, creating a sense of well-being, which will add another spring to your step!

People are living longer, so it’s not only our physical fitness but our mental fitness that needs to be looked after. Happily, medical research underpins what the dance world has known for a long time, that movement and dance improves all those skills that require a direct link between brain and muscle - the psycho-motor skills of co-ordination, balance, posture and reaction time. The challenges that movement and dance choreography bring to the brain-muscle link are absolutely invaluable in helping to offset the ageing process.
