RSCDS Toronto Association Scottish Country Dancers Scottish dancing is enjoyed by people of all ages and from many cultures. There is no need to have Scottish ancestry. Ceud Mille Failte - “A Hundred Thousand Welcomes” await you at 2010 St. Andrew's Ball, co-sponsored by the 48th Highlanders of Canada and the St. Andrew's Society of Toronto. Join us for an elegant evening on Saturday, November 27th at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, where formally attired guests will be piped in to the Canadian Room, following a reception that begins at 6 pm. Dinner music will be provided by the Pipers of the 48th Highlanders while Robert Burns's “Address To A Haggis” will set the stage for a fine gourmet dinner (haggis included). The Ball commences with the traditional Grand March to the Canadian Room, where the Pipes and Drums of the 48th will play stirring jigs and reels for Ceilidh Dancing. Meanwhile Scottish Country Dancing, to the lively music of Bobby Brown and the Scottish Accent, brings the Ballroom to life. As a fitting climax to a great evening, the Ball will end with the customary display of pipes and drums by the full band of the 48th Highlanders of Canada. Lunchtime carvery available for those who would like a meal but this needs to be booked beforehand. Carvery is £15 for 3 courses (then you cant dance), £12.50 for two courses (then you stand a chance) or £8.50 for one course (and you can dance the day and night away!). Alternatively, you can wander over the road to Gunwharf Quays, a large shopping complex with restaurants galore overlooking the Solent - you are spoilt for choice. Make a day of it and spend the morning shopping! You can also bring your own picnic to eat in the break between Workshop and Disco or again you can visit Gunwharf Quays to get some fresh air and enjoy the sunshine (!). Portsmouth & Southsea Station is just over the road so if you would like to enjoy the day without worrying about driving, let the train take the strain - I will even advise you on train times.
