Weekly class in 12th to early 20th Century dance. Complete beginners welcome. Classes cover social dances from a variety of periods such as: the Elizabethan pavane, galliarde and almaine, 17th and 18th century English country dances (as seen in film adaptations of books by Jane Austen), Regency waltz, Victorian dances (polka, schottische etc.), and ragtime dances. The dances chosen for a particular class may depend on the number of students present that day. Reduced fees if you pay for the whole term at the first class.

The dance rhythms may be familiar to those with a knowledge of the music of the period, and include the minuet, sarabande, bourée, gavotte, gigue and the French courante. Composers to write Baroque dance music include Lully, Purcell and Handel. This annual summer school covers the technique, presentation and reconstruction of Baroque dance, and is open to all levels. It is an ideal opportunity for those new to Baroque dance to gain a thorough grounding in the basic skills, or for more experienced dancers to benefit from intensive in-depth study. The summer school consists of three self-contained modules each of which can be viewed as a short course. Those who do not wish to attend the full summer school may attend any one or two modules, or for just a weekend. The final day (bank holiday Monday) will finish with a period ball to celebrate the 21st year of the summer school.
