Chicken Junction Lindy Hop is a lively dance that originated in the African American communities in Harlem, New York in the United States from about 1927 into the early 1930's. An influential predecessor of the lindy was the Charleston swing. We are celebrating the history and vitality of the William and Mary Dance Program by inviting alumni who are active in the field of dance to return to the College and teach workshops during our first summer intensive. Join us for classes in body work and improvisation open to all levels, intermediate and advanced technique classes, a forum on dance criticism, a choreography showing, and times for socializing. An open showing is scheduled in Adair Hall for 7:00 pm on Saturday, June 16. Please indicate on your registration form whether you wish to show a piece. We ask for a time limit of 10 minutes or less per choreographer. The studio sound system can play CDs and we will provide simple "light up, lights out" lighting. Dancers will have an opportunity to run their dance ahead of time, but there will not be extensive practice periods as the studio is also being used for classes.
